Community Seniors Empowered Through S.A.L.T. Council Meetings

The S.A.L.T. (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together) Council is making a notable difference in the lives of seniors in the community by providing crucial resources and educational opportunities. This proactive group, consisting of police officers, social workers, township employees, and active seniors, is dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of older residents.

Each month, the council organizes informative sessions featuring guest speakers who address various topics pertinent to seniors, with a strong emphasis on educating them about potential scams and offering resources that enable them to live safely and happily in their homes.

Recently, the council has welcomed several knowledgeable speakers.

In October 2025, Rita Brosnan from Senior Home Sharing elaborated on the organization’s 40-year dedication to tackling affordable housing shortages for low-income seniors in DuPage County. With significant local support, 85 seniors have improved their quality of life and maintained independence and community connections. Senior Home Sharing additionally offers in-home counseling to ensure seniors have access to essential services while respecting their privacy. Those interested can find more information at [seniorhomesharing.org](http://seniorhomesharing.org) or by calling 630-519-4198.

The following month, November 2025, brought Sue Davison, a committed SHIP counselor from Glen Ellyn Social Services, who provided valuable insights into Medicare choices, particularly regarding Part B enrollment. With decades of experience under her belt, Sue is available for consultations and organizes a variety of activities at the Glen Ellyn Senior Center, including exercise classes, a book club, and trivia games. More details about the center can be found [here](https://www.glenellyn.org/169/Senior-Center), and Sue can be reached at 630-858-6343.

Although the S.A.L.T. Council did not convene in January and February 2026, the series of informative discussions leading up to that period has left attendees feeling empowered with knowledge and resources to navigate their later years effectively.

In February 2026, the council hosted Allison Green, AuD, CSA, an Eldercare Advisor and Owner of Assisted Living Locators. She offered guidance to families navigating senior care options, addressing common misconceptions and providing clarity on essential senior care needs. Those seeking assistance can contact Allison via their website

In March 2026, Kathy Driscoll took the stage to discuss the Widows and Widowers organization for the West Suburbs. Her group is dedicated to offering support to seniors facing loss, fostering social connections and encouragement among members. Monthly meetings and social events create a strong sense of community, with further information available at cfsites.org

The ongoing engagement of the S.A.L.T. Council highlights the importance of community support and information-sharing among seniors, helping them to stay safe, informed, and connected.
