Serve. Educate. Protect.
The purpose of the Milton Township S.A.L.T. Council is to determine and to meet the needs of all senior citizens by reducing crime and abuse and by enhancing safety through communication and education in cooperation with the Township, law enforcement agencies, and other community agencies and organizations.
The Council was formed upon a suggestion by the DuPage County Sheriff to the Milton Township Board of Trustees. In the fall of 1997, the Trustees voted to appoint a council of twelve volunteers to determine and meet the security and safety needs of seniors. The Council developed and mailed surveys to the residences of over 6,200 seniors to determine their concerns.
The S.A.L.T. Council meets every second Monday of the month at 10:00 a.m. at the Glen Ellyn Police Department, located at 65 S. Park Blvd, Glen Ellyn. Meetings usually last about one hour and cover a range of topics relevant to seniors. If a Monday falls on a holiday, the meeting will be held on Tuesday instead. Please note that there are no meetings in August.
Each monthly meeting features a special guest speaker. Past speakers include representatives from AgeGuide, DuPage County Community Services, NW Mobile Stroke Unit, and DuPage Senior Citizens Council. Past speakers and topics from our monthly meetings can be reviewed in the Township News Portal every quarter. This quarterly report will continue to be named “The Communicator” within the news portal. See archived issues of “The Communicator” below:
